[Episcopal Relief & Development] To commemorate World Malaria Day, April 25, this month’s web features celebrate the work of Episcopal Relief & Development’s NetsforLife® program partnership in Africa, and the efforts of the organization’s friends in the US to raise awareness and support for the fight against malaria.
April’s Power of Partnerships explores the integration of other health issues into the core malaria prevention work of the NetsforLife® program partnership. In Ghana, local health volunteers are focusing on malaria prevention for expectant mothers, and promoting antenatal care during home visits. Since it started in 2006, NetsforLife® has distributed 8.5 million mosquito nets and trained nearly 74,000 Malaria Control Agents to educate their communities about malaria, hang nets in homes, and provide follow-up to ensure that the nets are being used and maintained properly.
This month’s Friends of Episcopal Relief & Development highlights the “Let’s Spike Malaria” volleyball tournament held by the Episcopal Diocese of North Carolina to get the diocese’s youth involved in its campaign for the NetsforLife® Inspiration Fund. The youth each paid an entry fee of $12, or the cost of one mosquito net, and had the option of seeking additional donations from family and friends. More than 50 youth participated in the tournament, which also included fun ice-breakers and a lesson from Episcopal Relief & Development’s Act Out curriculum for youth and young adults.
The monthly Power of Partnerships and Friends of Episcopal Relief & Development web features present stories about the agency’s partners in the US and worldwide.
