Consecrations, elections and consents

[Episcopal Church Office of Public Affairs press release] In the next four months – September 1 to December 31 – the Episcopal Church will witness the consecrations of three bishops, the elections of three bishops, and the canonical consent process underway for two bishops-elect.

Consecrations
Three consecrations of a bishop are slated for September to December. Presiding Bishop Katharine Jefferts Schori will officiate at the ordination services.

September 28: Diocese of Western Michigan consecration – The Rev. Whayne M. Hougland, Jr., elected May 18 (pending completion of successful canonical consent process).

November 2: Diocese of New Jersey consecration – The Rev. Canon William ‘Chip’ H. Stokes, elected May 4.

November 23: Diocese of Puerto Rico consecration; election slated for September 7.

Elections
During September to December, three bishop elections are scheduled:

September 7: Diocese of Puerto Rico

October 19: Diocese of Fond du Lac

December 7: Diocese of New York Suffragan

Canonical Consent Process
The canonical consent process is currently underway for two bishops-elect. The deadlines are:

October 9: The Rev. Canon William ‘Chip’ H. Stokes, elected  as bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of New Jersey May 4

October 16: The Rev. Whayne M. Hougland, Jr., elected bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Western Michigan May 18.
