Thanks to the generous support of its donors, in addition to providing exceptional financial support to students who can demonstrate need, Bexley Seabury will grant three full-ride, renewable scholarships to incoming M.Div. students every fall. And since Bexley Seabury has a rolling admission, it’s not too late to apply. Do you or do you know someone who would appreciate living and learning where God has already placed you rather than having to relocate and live in student housing? Perhaps one or more of the full scholarship opportunities may interest you.

In 2018, Bexley Seabury received a generous gift agreement from anonymous donors through the auspices of the Central Indiana Community Foundation to fully fund one incoming student every year for three years (for a total of three full ride scholarships for the entire three years of seminary). The St. Marina Scholarship was established for an MDiv student who identifies as LGBTQ and who demonstrates a strong commitment to pursuing justice ministry as an ordained person in the Episcopal Church.

Bexley Seabury is excited to announce that its St. Marina Scholarship benefactors recently donated 1.2 million dollars to fully endow the scholarship. President Micah Jackson said, “This scholarship has already benefited three incredible Bexley Seabury MDiv students who are already blessing the Church with their leadership, and I’m extremely grateful to our donors who have chosen to fund this scholarship in perpetuity. I’m thankful for the trust they have put in us to partner with them in their mission to support LGBTQ postulants.”

The St. Marina Scholarship is intended to cover the cost of tuition, books, travel, and other costs associated with the pursuit of the MDiv. Eligible applicants must:

  • be openly and publicly “out” about their LGBTQ identity;
  • exhibit a demonstrated commitment to justice ministry in the Episcopal Church, with a specific emphasis on working for justice and equality on behalf of people marginalized both within the church and elsewhere, and particularly (but not exclusively) on behalf of those who are marginalized because of their sexual orientation or gender identity;
  • have a GPA of B or above in their previous academic work;
  • plan to study full time at Bexley Seabury for three consecutive years.

The deadline to apply for the St. Marina Scholarship is July 30. You can learn more about the St. Marina Scholarship application requirements HERE. Two other newly established full scholarships are for matriculating MDiv students who may be in the discernment process or pursuing a lay vocation. Both scholarships will cover 100% of tuition and fees above other tuition scholarships they receive and be renewable until they graduate (or stop pursuing the degree) as long as they maintain good academic standing. The scholarship is credit hour-based rather than time-based, covering 81 credits. Therefore, the recipient may decide on a three, four, or five year track—whichever serves them best. Though preference will be given to those just starting their degree, transfer students may also apply and may be granted a scholarship for their remaining degree requirements.

In addition to the process of being accepted into the Bexley Seabury MDiv program, candidates must submit an application and write a 500-750 word essay (or may record the equivalent (5-8 minutes) of video or audio, in addition to the application’s essay on “What do you see as the church’s greatest need in your context, and how might the church be called to respond?” in addition to providing references from specific churches and communities. The deadline to apply for these two scholarships is August 15.
