A new children’s curriculum for dismantling racismPosted Apr 23, 2024 |
A K-5 Curriculum Developed in Conjunction With the Absalom Jones Center for Racial Healing
Church Publishing announces the publication of Living God’s Dream by Sally Ulrey, Katie McRee, and Malinda Shamburger.
Rooted in faith and field-tested in various churches, this five-session, age-appropriate, anti-racism curriculum is designed for a variety of settings, including Sunday school and vacation Bible school. Created for children in grades K-5, Living God’s Dream is jam-packed with activities designed to teach children how to create a better world by cultivating the practice of seeing the image of God in everyone.
Church Publishing offers a leader’s guide and a participant’s guide. The participant’s guide can be taken home at the conclusion of the curriculum to help families facilitate discussions, while the leader’s guide includes full lesson plans rich with content and experiential learning, as well as ideas for games, skits, crafts, and snacks. It also suggests storybooks that can help frame each lesson.
Written by the co-author of Dismantling Racism; a youth minister who has written curricular material for the Episcopal Diocese of Atlanta; and a member of the Absalom Jones Center for Racial Healing board, this curriculum is ideal for teaching children how to use faith-based tools to respond to racism.
