Washington National Cathedral statement on Wisconsin shooting

Posted Aug 6, 2012

[Washington National Cathedral] The Rev. Frank Wade, interim Dean of the Washington National Cathedral released the following statement today expressing sympathy and prayers, on behalf of the Cathedral community, to those lost in the shooting over the weekend at the Sikh Temple of Wisconsin.

“Violence to any peaceful gathering is reprehensible, and we at Washington National Cathedral especially condemn the violence and death on holy ground at the Sikh Temple of Wisconsin in Oak Creek. We join Americans of all religions — from parish church and gurdwara, mosque and synagogue — in praying for the families and communities of those affected. We also pledge our support for the peaceful Sikh community, part of this nation’s religious heritage for 100 years. May the divine word bring consolation and resolve to those who mourn. And may we continue the pursuit of cultural and religious reconciliation, guided by the one God who transcends all our divisions.”
