[Washington National Cathedral] Washington National Cathedral Nov. 6 announced plans to observe Veterans Day on Sunday, Nov. 11. A special Sunday forum will be led by the Rt. Rev. James B. Magness, bishop suffragan for Federal Ministries, on the “Weight of War,” at 10:10 a.m. The forum will be followed by the 11:15 a.m. Holy Eucharist in which the cathedral dean, the Very Rev. Gary Hall, will preach on the cathedral’s commitment to minister to veterans and our national responsibility to work toward healing those who have been wounded in body, mind and spirit.

Both events are free and open to the public and will be webcast live from the cathedral’s homepage at www.nationalcathedral.org. All are welcome to the cathedral to join in praying for the nation this Veterans Day, and to learn more about caring for the needs of those who serve in harm’s way.

10:10 a.m. – Sunday Forum on “The Weight of War”
The Rt. Rev. James B. Magness, bishop suffragan for Federal Ministries and a canon of the cathedral, will moderate a forum discussion on the spiritual health of war veterans. The conversation will pivot around the experience of soldiers when they come home from combat, exploring how faith communities can play a healing and strengthening role in the lives of veterans, especially those who have served in recent conflicts.

11:15 a.m. – Holy Eucharist
At the Sunday morning worship service, Cathedral Dean Gary Hall will preach about the cathedral’s commitment to minister to veterans and to all who serve on behalf of the United States, as part of its role as the spiritual home of the nation. Bishop Magness will preside during the liturgy, which includes special prayers for service personnel.
