[Episcopal News Service] The Topeka, Kansas Capital-Journal newspaper and other media outlets are featuring the news that the third Episcopalian in a row has been become the state chaplain of the Kansas National Guard.

According to Capital-Journal, the Rev. David Jenkins, the newest chaplain, is a lieutenant colonel in the Guard and an ordained minister in the Christian Church-Disciples of Christ denomination. He is also a member of St. David’s Episcopal Church in Topeka. Jenkins is in the process of receiving his Holy Orders to become ordained a priest in the Episcopal Church. He works as the bereavement counselor for Grace Hospice in Topeka.

The retiring Guard chaplain, the Rev. Don Davidson, is also the rector of St. David’s.

Jenkins officially became the Guard chaplain Jan. 8. That morning the Right Rev. Jay Magness, the Episcopal Church’s bishop suffragan for armed forces and federal ministries, presided and preached at St. David’s. He later attended the ceremony honoring Davidson’s retirement and Jenkins’ promotion.
