Shining a light on public service

In this election season, the Episcopal Conference Center of Rhode Island has been profiling summer camp alumni who have taken the camp’s unofficial motto, “Love is the energy of a steadfast will bent on creating fellowship”, and channeled that energy towards civic engagement and community building. They were asked to share the ways in which their camp experience moved them toward public service, and how they were able to take what they learned at ECC into the wider world.

The spotlight so far has shone on Heather Matson, State Representative Iowa House District 38; Emily Harrison, Volunteer Poll Worker in Lincoln RI; and Megan Birch-McMichael, Select Board in Stow MA. In a time when much political discourse is hostile and divisive, all interviewees have spoken of love, sharing, and community as their inspiration.

The articles are being collected on the Diocese of Rhode Island website: www.episcopalri.org/TftYM
