The Very Rev. Sarah F. Hurlbert, newly called Dean of The Cathedral of All Souls, Asheville, North Carolina

The Very Reverend Sarah Frances Hurlbert called as next Dean of The Cathedral of All Souls, Asheville, North Carolina. Reverend Hurlbert was elected with the full support of the 2022 Vestry of All Souls and the Rt. Rev. José A. McLoughlin, Bishop of the Diocese of Western North Carolina.

Rev. Hurlbert brings the highest qualifications and is well suited to open the next chapter in the life of the Cathedral of All Souls. Most recently, she served as the Rector of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Jackson, Michigan since 2017. Sarah previously served as a campus minister at Michigan State University for 10 years and prior to that she was campus minister at Mary Washington College (2004-2007) and on staff at Trinity Church in Fredericksburg, Virginia. Likewise, Sarah participated in several diocesan leadership roles including, serving as Dean of the Lyster Deanery in the Diocese of Michigan, supervisor to both seminarians and curates, and as a member of the Diocesan Council and the Diocesan Budget Committee.

Rev. Hurlbert received her Masters of Divinity from Virginia Theological Seminary in 2004 and a BA in Fine Arts Theater Costuming from the University of Florida in 1992. Prior to seminary, Sarah worked in the wardrobe departments of several major Broadway musical theater productions in New York City.

Bishop José and Mr. David Jordan, Senior Warden, recently shared, “Together, we look forward to this new chapter in the life of the Cathedral of All Souls and the Diocese of Western North Carolina and in our shared ministry of proclaiming the Good News of Jesus Christ and God’s love for all people.”

Sarah and her wife of 5 years, Dee, will arrive in Asheville the end of August. Sarah’s first Sunday with us will be on September 11, 2022.
