The Trump Administration’s report to Congress on the proposed refugee admissions for 2021 calls for a ceiling of 15,000 refugee admissions. This is the lowest ceiling in our country’s history and an abdication of our humanitarian leadership around the world. There are currently more than 79.5 million forcibly displaced people worldwide, 26 million of whom are refugees. According to the UNHCR, 1.4 million people need international protection through resettlement because of persecution, war, and violence.

“The Episcopal Church, through the work of Episcopal Migration Ministries, has resettled thousands of refugees every year in partnership with local communities,” said Presiding Bishop Michael B. Curry. “We stand ready to welcome and walk in the Way of Love with our newest neighbors. Our faith calls us to offer compassion and care to the most vulnerable among us.”

Episcopal Migration Ministries is a ministry of The Episcopal Church and is one of nine national agencies responsible for resettling refugees in the United States in partnership with the government. Episcopal Migration Ministries currently has 13 affiliate offices in 11 states. In addition to its long-standing work in refugee resettlement ministry, Episcopal Migration Ministries is The Episcopal Church’s convening place for collaboration, education, and information-sharing on migration.
