Observing Advent in Washington, DC

Posted Nov 30, 2012

[Episcopal Diocese of Washington] Advent begins this Sunday, bringing four weeks of preparation and reflection before Christmas. This week, Presiding Bishop Katharine Jefferts Schori gave her Advent message, asking “What is it that you are most waiting for?” Find a way to make Advent a meaningful season for you as you wait:

    • Join Bishop Mariann in reading the Daily Office Lectionary each day. Let the Bishop know you will join her, find the readings online, and download apps to make it easier to read on the Bishop’s blog
    • Read Jason Evans’ blog on evangelism each Saturday. The blog will appear on the Facebook each week and help us find ways to share our faith.
    • Use apps such as Advent 2012 by Biblica (iOS), which features daily scripture readings and prayers, or
Christmas Advent Calendar for Christian Kids and Schools by Barcelona Multimedia (iOS), that includes 25 pictures and Bible quotes you can use to teach children about Advent and Christmas.
    • Join the parishes in the diocese for quiet days, services of lessons and carols, concerts, and more special Advent events
