NEWARK: Crossroads Camp and Retreat Center seeks volunteers

Posted Nov 2, 2012

[Episcopal News Service] Crossroads Camp and Retreat Center (Diocese of Newark) is located in Port Murray, northwestern New Jersey. The following is a request for volunteers from its executive director, Anthony Briggs.

Greetings from Crossroads,

I sincerely hope this e-mail finds you safe and secure during this challenging time in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy.  We need to reach out to our camp friends and family here in New Jersey for much needed help here at Crossroads.

In summary our damage includes the following

  • moderate damage to several buildings,
  • the high ropes course was destroyed
  • the low ropes course was destroyed
  • roads and pathways through camp are impassible
  • 100’s of trees are down throughout camp

We will be hosting workdays on November 10th and 17th.  Also, if you are available during the week and have chainsaw skills we have two major labor needs at the current time:

  1. Clear and cut a large amount of storm damaged trees on roads, paths and on or around buildings
  • All skill levels are needed to assist with this task.
  • We can use the assistance of everyone from Youth Groups to experienced chain saw owner/operators.

2. Remove precarious and dangerous uprooted and leaning  trees

  • EXPERIENCED and highly skilled chain saw operators

Material needs:

  1. Chainsaws
  2. Work gloves
  3. Chainsaw fuel
  4. Wood Chipper
  5. Donations always welcome

Thank you so much!  You can respond to Anthony@CrossRoadsRetreat.com or contact me on my cell phone at 818.414.1965.
