[Washington National Cathedral] On Monday, January 16, Washington National Cathedral will celebrate the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. with a presentation of “King In Our Midst,” a celebration of service, song and spoken word. This year the Cathedral will present the 14th annual concert and day of service honoring his work to establish a more perfect union in the place where he delivered his last Sunday sermon, “Remaining Awake Through a Great Revolution,” before his untimely death in 1968.

Visitors and Washingtonians are invited to attend and are encouraged to bring a non-perishable food item or a new children’s book that will benefit D.C. charities. The concert will include performances by the WPAS Children of the Gospel Choir, Urban Nation H.I.P. – H.O.P. Choir, Malcolm X Dancers & Drummers, Tony Keith, St. Augustine Gospel Choir, CityDance Conservatory Dancers, and School Without Walls Choir.

“Martin Luther King Jr.’s impact on this nation, this community and this Cathedral is immeasurable,” said the Rev. Canon Jan Naylor Cope, Cathedral vicar. “We honor his legacy by shining a light on those whose lives were made better by his ministry and by continuing his work to make better the lives of those in our city and beyond.”
