KANUGA RE-OPENS to SUMMER GUESTS

Under the latest NC COVID guidelines and regulations, Kanuga is pleased to welcome guests back to its 1,400-acre retreat with reduced occupancy. Kanuga Cottage & Inn Retreats is an innovative summer solution for families offering respite and renewal. Each family may book accommodations with meals and outdoor activities, while practicing social distancing from other groups for the health and safety of all.

“We will continue to follow CDC guidelines and State of North Carolina requirements for social distancing and group gatherings. But this will not stop the Kanuga spirit,” says The Rev. Michael Sullivan, Kanuga’s president. “Guests are enjoying getting away to their Kanuga home in the western North Carolina mountains, and we have never been more happy to see them.”

In addition to the health and safety guidelines, Kanuga has developed a reimagined approach to food service. Kanuga favorites (Kanuga toast!) as well as new items are offered with daily meal plans created and prepared by Chef Michael Contrado, who joined Kanuga this year. “It’s so fun to think about our offerings in a fresh way. Our team has really risen to the challenge and I’m very proud of the menu,” he says.

A daily menu sampling may include link sausage, scrambled eggs, cinnamon apple French toast, Adluh Mills stone ground grits (Columbia, SC), Kanuga toast with homemade apple butter, fresh seasonal fruit for breakfast; creamy corn chowder, turkey club or chicken salad on artisan bread, homemade pasta salad, fresh fried potato chips, fresh baked brownies for lunch; or herb-roasted beef au jus, garlic and herb smashed red potatoes, roasted corn and vegetable succotash, fresh garden salad, fresh baked rolls, and apple crisp for supper. The Kanuga kitchen uses fresh herbs from its garden with other fresh ingredients. “The menus are fluid, because market supplies are pretty inconsistent right now,” says Michael, “But our guests tell us they enjoy it when there’s a bit of surprise sometimes!”
