The Institute for Sustainable Communities’ (ISC) board of directors is pleased to announce the appointment of LuAnn L. Bennett as board chair and the Rt. Rev. Eugene Taylor Sutton as vice chair. Bennett and Sutton bring 40-plus years of combined leadership experience to the board in support of ISC’s mission to promote equitable climate solutions worldwide.

A seasoned business leader, Bennett leads the Bennett Group, a real estate construction and development company with a focus on developing sustainable building strategies. She has worked in real estate for more than 30 years and is also a LEED accredited professional. In 2008, Bennett served on the Climate Change Commission for the Commonwealth of Virginia under Governor Tim Kaine, and in 2016, she ran as the Democratic nominee for Virginia’s 10th District Congressional Seat.

Sutton is bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Maryland, where he has served since June 2008. Previously, he was canon pastor and director of the Cathedral Center for Prayer and Pilgrimage at Washington National Cathedral. Rev. Sutton is a frequent leader of retreats and conferences on spirituality, nonviolence, the environment and reconciliation and has spoken nationwide and in the media on these topics.

ISC looks forward to the leadership provided by Bennett and Sutton in the year to come.
