Clergy from the Diocese of Missouri and the Central States Synod, ELCA gathered at St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church in Creve Coeur, MO, for a renewal of baptismal and ordination vows.

Nearly 50 clergy members from the Episcopal Diocese of Missouri and the Central States Synod, ELCA came together for a special celebration of Holy Eucharist and a renewal of Baptismal and Ordination Vows.

Priests, deacons and lay leaders gathered at St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church in West St. Louis County on Monday in Holy Week. The Rt. Rev. Deon K. Johnson, Bishop of Missouri, presided at the service; The Rev. Susan Candea, Bishop of the Central States Synod, ELCA, served as the preacher.

“Scattered into the world we gather together as God’s people in worship,” Bishop Deon said in his welcome. “We bring the fragments of our lives to be healed and made whole in Christ as we gather in community. We gather to be renewed in our commitment to follow Jesus.”

Along with leading the renewal of vows, both bishops joked during the service about bringing everyone together during Holy Week, which is one of the busiest times of the year for church leaders.

“And to do this on this week, it doesn’t seem to make much sense. Or does it?” asked Bishop Susan in her sermon. “Is this perhaps the perfect week to do this? Because we have a God who makes all things holy and calls us to holy work. What better week to affirm that than Holy Week?”

Following the service, the clergy gathered for group photos and shared lunch together.
