DFMS staff changes: Legal counsel and controller

[Episcopal Church Office of Public Affairs] Presiding Bishop Katharine Jefferts Schori has named Paul Nix, Esq. of Atlanta, GA as Legal Counsel for the Domestic and Foreign Missionary Society (DFMS), effective immediately.

Based at the Episcopal Church Center in New York City, Nix’s responsibilities include offering legal assistance on various projects and providing oversight on contracts, negotiations, and human resources matters, an area to which he brings considerable experience.

Nix had been serving as interim legal counsel since January. His appointment to the position follows a candidates search. Previously, Nix was Vice-President – Deputy General Counsel and Assistant Secretary for Ricoh Americas Corporation in Atlanta. He also served on the legal staff of Lanier Worldwide, Inc., in Atlanta, where he was General Counsel, and the legal staff of Harris Corporation, Melbourne, FL.  He was associated with the Columbia, SC firm of McNair Law Firm. He served as judicial law clerk for the United States District Court, Charleston, SC.

Nix is a graduate of the University of South Carolina School of Law where he was a member of the Law Review. He holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science and Philosophy, Furman University, Greenville, SC, where he graduated Phi Beta Kappa.

He is a member of St. Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church in Atlanta.

Controller’s Post
DFMS Controller Alpha Conteh announced that he will leave the staff at the end of the year.  Known and respected as detail-oriented and meticulous, Conteh has served as Controller since October 2005 and is credited with introducing many accounting, budgeting and reporting enhancements to the DFMS system.

The search for a DFMS controller is in process, according to John Colón, DFMS Director of Human Resources.
