Daughters of the King holds triennial, elects new board members

[Daughters of the King] In 2010, The Order of the Daughters of the King celebrated 125 years of prayer, service and evangelism. Founded in 1885 by Margaret J. Franklin at New York City’s Church of the Holy Sepulchre, (now the Church of the Resurrection), it has grown into an international spiritual sisterhood of over 25,000 Daughters all of whom take vows to follow a Rule of Life – Prayer and Service.

This summer’s Triennial Conference in Indianapolis, June 27 – July 1, 2012 was a joyful continuation of the celebration of this anniversary, with over 500 Daughters in attendance.

“Looking to Jesus, Spreading His Love” was the fitting theme for a conference for women whose vows direct them to a life focused on Christ and His Great Commission – sharing His love to make disciples. Some of the fruits of that discipline attended the Triennial in the form of Daughters from around the world: Haiti, Dominican Republic, Brazil, Honduras, Trinidad and Tobago, Kenya, Malawi , India and Jerusalem! The theme carried through with the keynote speaker, the Rev. Major Sarah Shirley, a Chaplain with the Air Force Reserves. Her message of how God is present during conflict was delivered with much humor and profound reflection on human nature and our relationships with each other and our God.

The days (and evenings) were blessed by the the enthusiasm and talent of Roger Grenier leading in song and reflection. The “Friends of the Groom,” a three person drama group, gave powerful meditations. Choices of workshops dealing with DOK matters: Spirituality, Evangelism, Art and Drama, provided an interesting buffet for either expanding horizons or going deeper into one’s
current journey. All worked together with the Holy Spirit to produce a truly spirit-filled meeting.

Of course, one sign of the Holy Spirit’s presence is a business meeting without conflict and with patience in good supply! That too was present at this joy filled event. Business was conducted with focus and in a timely manner, including the election of a new National Council, whose members have already begun work.

With great pleasure, the Order announces the election of this new Council, made up of 15 members elected at the Triennial and eight province presidents who have been elected by their provinces.

The new Executive Board consists of President, Pam Runyon – NC, 1st Vice-president, Jen Mariano – MD, 2nd Vice-president, Missy Denney – TX, Secretary, Susan O’Brien – IL, and Treasurer, Annemarie Delgado – WY. Other elected members are Mariana Bauman, MA, Christine Budzowski – CA, Metro Griffith – FL, Ann Holmes – CO, Susan Keith – NC, Marge Rogers – NY, Emily Thrasher – VA, Patsy Thomson – TX, Chesley Vohden- VA, Vivian Young – TX.

The province presidents are Province 1: Donna Abramov-VT, Province 2: Janet Papa – NY, Province 3: Laura Richards – DC, Province 4: Lindy Kirk – SC, Province 5: Pamela Sebura, IN, Province 6: Lyn Zolman – CO, Province 7: Brenda Amos – TX and Province 8: Carrie DaCosta – AZ.
