Church of England clarifies position on civil partnership ceremonies

The Church of England has clarified that it cannot perform civil partnership ceremonies in religious premises until its General Synod has acted on the issue. Full statement from Secretary General William Fittall available here.

In March 2010, the U.K. Parliament decided, during the passage of what is now the Equality Act 2010, to remove the prohibition on the registration of civil partnerships on religious premises. The law will come into effect on Dec. 5.
