Pope Shenouda III, leader of the Coptic Orthodox Christian Church in Egypt since 1971, died on March 17 aged 88. His health had been deteriorating for several years. Throughout his papal ministry, he presided over the expansion of the Coptic Orthodox Church in Egypt and throughout the world.
