There’s still time to apply to be part of the Young Adult Service Corps and spend a year serving God while learning about yourself and the world around you.

Commonly known as YASC, the Young Adult Service Corps is open to Episcopalians ages 21-30.  Applications for 2019-2020 placements are available through Friday, January 11, 2019. Learn more about how young adults are serving as missionaries throughout the worldwide Anglican Communion by reading their blogs and watching videos that show a day in the life of some YASC placements.

Apply to be part of the 2019-2020 YASC cohort here.

Placements change a bit each year as we try to personalize them to match the interests, skills, and hopes of those who apply. Potential placements for 2019-2020 include (but are not limited to) Brazil, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, England, France, Ghana, Honduras, Hong Kong, Italy, Mexico, Panama, the Philippines, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, and Tanzania.

Spencer Cantrell, who served in Hong Kong, and currently works as a lawyer in Washington, DC, calls her YASC year “extremely formative in my faith, and the lessons I learned about the Gospel and the Church still stick with me today.” She adds, “YASC definitely cemented my passion for serving others, reminding me that we all have different talents to help in different ways. My year abroad guided me while picking legal internships and externships and deciding what direction I wanted my law career to take. The work I am doing now is directly related to what I was doing in Hong Kong.”

Alan Yarborough, who currently works in the Episcopal Church Office of Government Relations, reflects on the impact his YASC service in Haiti had on him: “I developed a better understanding of justice and how culture and context are important in understanding not just other foreign cultures but my own here in the US. There is something deeply spiritual about having my eyes opened wider to the intricacies and complications of my own country and community as a result of stepping outside of it and learning from other cultures.”

Where is God calling you?
