Job Description
Grace Episcopal Church in New Lenox, IL, a growing parish of the Episcopal Church, located in the southwest suburbs of Chicago, is seeking a part-time youth & children’s ministry director, who will lead and coordinate all ministries and activities of programs related to children ages 3-18. This person will ideally be a combination of educator, pastor and administrator to this vital ministry age range.

Job Duties & Responsibilities:
– Oversee the design and implementation of the children’s Sunday School programming
Support and foster the volunteer teachers by training and collaboration
Step in as teacher as needed or deemed necessary
– Oversee and implement a new youth group program for teens age 12-18, including running weekly youth group meetings with curriculum and coordinating between parents, teens and volunteers
– Oversee and direct our annual Vacation Bible School (VBS) program in the summer – typically, but not limited to, one week 9am-Noon in the summer
– Coordinate child care and nursery attendants or sitters (if or when that becomes a reality for our congregation

Expectations:
– Be energetic and enthusiastic around children and teenagers. The ideal candidate will possess great natural chemistry and charisma with these vital age groups
– Foster relationships with parents and other parishioners to recruit and equip volunteers and leaders
– Be creative and adaptive in networking in the community and helping to build and expand children and youth programs
– Maintain a portion of part-time office hours at the church during the weekdays, negotiated with Rector
Participate in weekly staff meetings as necessary
Be available remotely during working hours (including being tech-savvy to accomplish this)

Qualifications:
– A strong sense of calling to children and youth ministry and an innate ability to communicate with children (and parents)
– A college degree is preferred
– Experience in this type of ministry or in church ministry is ideal
– A commitment to inclusivity and progressive Christian values, including most especially affirming diversity in terms of race, ethnicity, sexual identity and gender identity
– An awareness and serious handle on boundaries with respect to parishioners and especially children and youth
– Must be able to communicate well by phone and email within the confines of working hours
– Must be flexible, amenable and cooperative with staff, clergy, vestry and parishioners

Other Points of Note:
– The Youth & Children’s Director reports to the Rector (Priest), though salary is approved by the Vestry (lay leaders / board of directors). Salary and Benefits will be determined by the employee and Rector in consultation with the Treasurer and Vestry, commensurate with experience. The employee would be eligible to participate in the Episcopal Church Pension Fund.
– The Youth & Children’s Director will have shared office space on-site and the church will provide access to a computer, internet and phone
– As an essential part of the interview process, candidates will be required to meet with the – Vestry and Wardens at least once, and a social gathering with the teens and/or children at least once before a decision is made.
