Job Title
Vicar
Name of church or organization
Grace Episcopal Church
Location
St. George, UT
Job Description
Our vision is to bring the good news of Jesus to our neighbors, especially to those most in need of salvation from hunger, poverty, captivity, and any other form of marginalization. Our vision statement reads:

Grace Episcopal Church is a reconciling, affirming, and inclusive Christian community striving through worship, love, and service to welcome all people.

We are a small congregation with an older population. Current Average Sunday Attendance (September 2022) is around 40. Many members are retired and have moved to the St. George area to enjoy its warm winter climate and beautiful red rock landscapes. Some are snowbirds: they spend winters in St. George and summers in second homes in cooler spots. Most members are not cradle Episcopalians but seek Grace to find community and faith with others of similar interests. St. George is in Washington County where more than 60% of the population identifies as members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

The vicar we seek is someone who

  • Demonstrates a personal commitment to following Jesus in their daily life
  • Preaches in such a way that we can apply the Bible’s truths to modern life
  • Respects Episcopal liturgical and musical traditions
  • Likes the desert Southwest
  • Keeps the doors open to all people
  • Leads through motivation, persuasion, encouragement, and collaboration
  • Encourages outreach
  • Develops and strengthens community relationships, such as the Interfaith Council
  • Navigates conflict well
  • Recognizes the talents of individual members and encourages their use for corporate growth and improvement
