Corps members

During a #ServiceYear, Corps members work for social justice, grow as leaders, and live in community. Corps members serve through ESC for a variety of reasons. Some are looking to start a career in nonprofits. Others are interested in an experiential gap-year before applying to graduate school or have a deep desire to live more intentionally in community. Sometimes they are a few years removed from college, disillusioned by their career, and looking for a change.

Corps members are selected from a pool of applicants ranging in age from 21 to 32 and come from a diverse range of racial, economic, geographic, and religious backgrounds. Every deployed Corps member has demonstrated a deep commitment to working for social justice and a commitment to spiritual growth.

A year of service through ESC is an opportunity to gain hands on experience by serving in a non-profit organization, create life-long relationships by living in intentional community, and grow by exploring ancient and modern spiritual practices. Corps members serve full-time in their own site placement and commit to ongoing leadership training, spiritual practice and reflection with the other fellows in the program. Corps members also live in community, sharing regular meals and time for spiritual practice together.

Corps member benefits include a living stipend, food stipend, health insurance, housing, transportation pass, and extensive leadership training throughout the program year.

Programs across the Episcopal Service Corps network are now recruiting applicants for the 2021-2022 #ServiceYear, which begins summer 2022.
