Job Description
St. Paul’s is a growing, intergenerational, university-oriented, justice-minded parish directly across the street from the Central Grounds of the University of Virginia. Founded as a mission to the University in 1910, St. Paul’s has been home to a lively mix of town and gown for generations. As we embark on a major expansion of our facilities, we believe we are also called to expand our commitment to our founding mission, and that we have the spiritual and financial resources to do so. We seek an experienced ministry professional to help us grow into the center of Christian life at UVA that we believe we are called to be. The lay or ordained Episcopalian who is called to this ministry will have the skills and experience to …

• develop existing and new undergraduate ministries in formation, fellowship, and service, with the goal of welcoming and involving multiples of the 30-40 current members of The University Fellowship (TUF).
• equip students, including members of the TUF vestry, with the faith and tools to serve the Church as lay and ordained leaders after college, inviting them into intentional vocational discernment.
• raise TUF’s profile at UVA and beyond by cultivating relationships throughout the University, and with the leaders of high school ministries in parishes and Episcopal schools around the Diocese and the wider Church.
• be an active and engaged pastor and mentor for undergraduates at St. Paul’s and be present to the whole University, including graduate students, as an Episcopal chaplain.
• preach regularly across the parish worship schedule, including a larger share of Sunday evening services during the spring and fall semesters.
• administer annual scholarship awards of more than $250,000 for Episcopal students.
• lead TUF and the parish in discernment about the relationship of our residential Canterbury House to the new student center planned for our expanded church building.
• deepen and enrich the integration we already enjoy between student life and parish life, cultivating the participation of students in parish ministries and the contributions of parishioners to university ministry.
• exercise professional and spiritual leadership in parish life and worship as a senior member of the program or clergy staff.

Applicants should have extensive experience in parish ministry and/or chaplaincy, including proven aptitude for cultivating programmatic growth. Strong preaching and writing skills are essential, as are openness, optimism, and flexibility. A personal commitment to the full inclusion and affirmation of LGBTQ persons in the Church is required. The salary range begins at $85,000, excluding SECA reimbursement for ordained clergy.
