Bishop Rice and the Diocesan Council believe in the potential of ECoS’s mission and ministry in both Hanford and the Central Deanery. We are in conversation with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) bishop, The Rt. Rev. Mark Homerud of the Sierra Pacific Synod, as well as the local ELCA congregation, St James, about sharing a clergy person. Neither congregation can afford a full time cleric, but we both have ministry opportunities that needs the energetic, creative and entrepreneurial leadership of a Lutheran pastor or Episcopal priest. This will be the first TEC/ELCA partnership in the Diocese of San Joaquin and could be a model for future partnerships.
At this time we are not suggesting that the two congregations merge, but rather that our ministries be yoked under the new cleric’s guidance. We are open to what the future holds and what God is calling us to be in the years to come.
We seek a Priest-in-charge:
–Who will work collaboratively with our lay leaders and identify areas of growth and formation
–Who respects diversity at all levels be it race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, ability, age, and socio-economic status
–Who is inspiring, creative, energetic, enthusiastic and mission focused
–Who deeply loves the people of God
