|We are a parish that lives into its mission to offer “hope, healing and hospitality” in Christ’s name. We know that ourselves because we are a redemption story: a parish that was mired in conflict and then learned, humbly and imperfectly, to once again be the Beloved Community. We are a parish family that is older but getting younger, that is comfortable but able to live into the discomfort that change brings, and that loves our traditions but also embraces new traditions.
We are located in Petersburg, just south of Richmond, a city that is working hard to support a much-changed population in the midst of loss of an industrial base, but which has much that is historic, beautiful and strong. The city is on the Appomattox River, with close proximity to opportunities for outdoor recreation and many historic locations. Steven Spielberg’s movie “Lincoln” was filmed in part in our historic district. Virginia State University, an HBCU, and Richard Bland College, a feeder community college to the College of William and Mary, are nearby.
We seek a priest who can walk beside us as we and our community evolve, understanding that ministry is primarily relational and that relevant preaching and teaching can both challenge and comfort. We love collaborative leadership and we also recognize that effective leadership means making tough decisions occasionally. We seek a priest who can be a blessing to us and to whom we can be a blessing.
