|St. Michael’s of the Valley Episcopal Church|
After 34 years with our previous rector, St. Michael’s of the Valley Episcopal Church is seeking our next rector to shepherd our congregation, bless us with scriptural teaching and help us develop our spiritual gifts.
We are a discerning parish, wanting to be led by God in our lives and ministry, broadthinking, connected, educated, theologically conservative but socially and politically diverse. We strongly support a Christ-centered theology and are interested in deepening our understanding of scripture. St. Michael’s is fortunate to have a strong financial foundation. We are committed to stewardship and are generous with our time, talents and resources, and we seek someone who will embrace and encourage our outreach efforts. We consider ourselves a small yet vibrant church, rich in history and with strong, spiritually based values.
St. Michael’s was established in 1949 in Rector, PA, just outside of the historic village of Ligonier. We are located in the heart of the Laurel Highlands, a semi-mountainous rural area about 50 miles southeast of Pittsburgh. We enjoy plenty of outdoor activities such as hiking, biking and skiing. Our close proximity to Pittsburgh gives us easy access to cultural, entertainment and educational activities.
Our parish is seeking a priest who is eloquent and energetic, one who will deliver sound and inspiring sermons, teach our adults, and support our children’s Sunday school program. Our next rector should also place a high priority on pastoral care by being empathetic and a good listener. St. Michael’s desires a priest who honors the traditions of the Episcopal Church, embraces our liturgical style, and helps us to strengthen our faith.
There is a strong need to grow the congregation by working to retain current members and attract and welcome new members. Our next rector should become an integral part of our church community, fostering fellowship at parish gatherings, supporting activities within the parish, and participating in local community activities, helping St. Michael’s to be more visible in the Ligonier Valley.
We believe God’s purpose for us is to be a safe, nurturing environment for all who are seeking a deeper relationship and walk with God, while encouraging our members to love and care for one another and our community.
