||St. James is an active and vibrant community of believers in Springfield, MO who are especially focused on outreach ministries: caring for the poor, the needy, and the marginalized. We are searching for a rector who will feel at home with us.
Our congregation is composed of individuals with diverse religious backgrounds and political beliefs. Some are lifelong Episcopalians while others have come from other traditions to find a home at St. James. We respect our differences while actively following the tenets of the Episcopal Church and remaining open and affirming to all. We value our commitment to be followers of Jesus. In practice, that means being kind, welcoming and highly involved in all aspects of worship, fellowship, education and outreach.
We have learned to be resilient in the age of Covid and found creative new ways to worship and stay together. Our parish has continued to grow despite all the disruptions of the pandemic.
At St. James, we have regular Sunday services both in-person and online, coffee hour, a weekly healing service, adult and child Sunday School, and nightly online Compline services. Lay leaders are active in choir, vestry, altar guild, hospitality, and altar ministries to assist, support and enhance our worship experience. Lay members regularly lead Compline and educational offerings. Many of us are involved in multiple ministries in the church. Over 90% of our congregation is involved in one or more active ministries.
St. James is looking for a rector who will appreciate our strengths and help us to continue to grow into loving God and our neighbors. We are looking for someone dynamic and creative who can take us in new directions to serve our Lord.
As a community, we are warm, caring, spiritual, and generous.
