Job Description
St Luke’s Episcopal Church, an established urban Christ centered parish in the Anglo-Catholic tradition, is searching for our next Rector who will lead us into an exciting and new chapter of shared life and ministry.

Our roots extend to 1885 when the first Episcopal mission was established in Fort Myers, that mission was called St. Luke’s. We are the oldest church in the Fort Myers area—we have been sharing the Good News of God’s redeeming love with our community for over 135 years.

St. Luke’s is called to glorify God in traditional worship, proclaiming the Gospel of Jesus Christ through a loving community.  St. Luke’s serves God by:

  • Living and offering the Anglo-Catholic Faith through traditional worship and orthodox preaching
  • Equipping all members for ministry through the formation of disciples
  • Reaching out to our neighbors in word and action with the Good News of God’s Truth and Love in Jesus Christ
  • Sharing the Peace of Christ with one another.

We are seeking a dedicated priest whose theological and liturgical background will enable us to strengthen our liturgical tradition as we grow in faith, worship and service to God.

Dynamic preaching and teaching skills are needed to help us grow spiritually, and personally, enabling us to share that faith with our families, our community and the world. Part of that growth will be strengthening of active lay ministries among the congregation to better serve our God, and our parish. We look forward to welcoming a dedicated and devout priest into our Parish Family as leader, teacher, and friend.

St. Luke’s has had a long history of traditional choral music. Today the choir faithfully continues this tradition singing weekly for Mass and, when scheduled, participating in the concert series. In recent years we performed concerts with chamber orchestra, major works by Mozart, Haydn, and Schubert to name a few. We offer staff appointments to section leaders from the community often drawing from local high schools.

One of the best things about living and working in the Greater Fort Myers Area is the warm, sunny climate that colors everything in its path with contentment! Fort Myers is nestled on the banks of the Caloosahatchee River just a short drive from the white sand beaches of Fort Myers, Bonita Springs, Sanibel and Captiva Islands on the Gulf of Mexico. Cape Coral, one of Florida’s fastest growing cities, is on the west side of the river which is spanned by four bridges. Nicknamed “The City of Palms” because of the hundreds of stately Royal Palms lining McGregor Boulevard and dozens of residential street and neighborhoods, Fort Myers is noted for lush tropical vegetation and colorful flowering trees. A strong economy based on tourism, agriculture, finance, retail, medical, real estate development, and service-oriented trades offer much to an ever-growing population.
