Job Description
Grace Episcopal Church in Astoria, Oregon sits at the mouth of the Columbia River in the northwest corner of Oregon. Beautiful vistas abound from the surrounding hills as the Pacific Ocean meets the river ten miles away. For over 156 years, the church has lived through Astoria’s booms and busts. The Clatsop and Chinook Indians saw Captain Robert Gray sail the Columbia Rediviva into the river in 1792. These First Nations peoples later welcomed the Lewis and Clark expedition in 1805. John Jacob Astor’s Fur Trading Company established Astoria in 1811 making Astoria the oldest American settlement west of the Rockies. Grace Church become the oldest Episcopal Parish of the same distinction. Though proud of our history, we have made great strides to remain current. We attest to the words of the entry window to our church, “Grace and Truth Came Through Jesus Christ.” We are a resilient group interested in supporting and helping one another, serving our church and community and growing spiritually. We seek a full-time Rector who is outgoing, motivated, and willing to be visible to our parishioners and the community. We want a candidate who thinks outside, in, and around the box to make our worship meaningful, contemporary, and compassionate. Preaching and pastoral care are central to the job. Talent and skills for engaging and supporting laity in ministry is desired. Prayerful guidance through the rough spots of life is essential. We value our community outreach.
