|St. Peter’s is a parish on the inter-coastal water way. They have two Eucharist services on Sunday and one healing service on Wednesday. Our 8:00 AM service uses Rite I from the Book of Common Prayer. There is no music at this service. Rite II is used at the 10:00 AM service. Music is included and provided by the organist and the choir. A nursery is also provided for the 10:00 service.
Sunday school begins at 10:00 AM and ends at the beginning of Holy Communion when the children join their parents in the sanctuary. On occasion there will be one service bringing both congregations together; this occurs when there is a major event that follows the service.
The Healing service is held on Wednesday at noon. Whether or not this is a Eucharist service depends on the availability of a priest. This is typically a small and intimate gathering.
Through our three weekly services, it is hoped that the spiritual needs of the individuals and families who attend St. Peter’s are met.
There are many opportunities for the people of St. Peter’s to be a part of the ministry. The opportunities include, but are not limited to: Lay Eucharistic ministers, lay readers, acolytes, altar guild, ushers, coffee hour hosts, and Christian education. There are a variety of groups to be members of such as Discernment, Hospitality/Bereavement Committees & Vestry. Attending Cursillo or the Diocesan Convention also allow ministry opportunities. Volunteers are always welcome via the wonderful “sign-up” sheets for those who want to maintain the church buildings and grounds. In addition our annual Yard Sale, Towel Ministry, Lobsterfest fundraiser, and Thanksgiving Supper give everyone who wants to serve the opportunity to participate throughout the year. Parish members join in these ministries either on their own initiative, or in response to suggestions or invitations from the Rector, Vestry members or other parishioners who are already engaged in a particular ministry. We are a caring and giving congregation who seek ways to serve our gracious and loving God.
Although initiated slightly more than five years ago, Beach Towel Ministry best exemplifies the spirit of our parish. Beach Towel is a youth-oriented outreach ministry engaged in housing repairs for the less fortunate in the nearby communities. The Good News of the Gospel is spread by participating in work projects such as building handicap access ramps, painting, weatherproofing, clearing yard debris other needed housing repairs. The most important aspect of Beach Towel is the care, love, respect, and overcoming loneliness these young people provide for the families they are serving.
High School students from St. Peter’s and youth groups and their chaperones from churches inside and outside the diocese come to St. Peter’s for one week over the summer for work, prayer, and other activities. Beach Towel provides many lessons for the youth but especially that we have a responsibility to the less fortunate.
As the host church, St. Peter’s is responsible for the planning, housing, feeding and transporting the participants to the work sites as well as supervising the work being done. To bring this to fruition involves many in the parish. Thus, Beach Towel brings together St. Peter’s as a cohesive unit as we work to ensure the continued success of this Ministry. Beach Towel Ministry serves as a reminder of when Jesus became a servant and used a towel to wash the feet of his disciples. Like Jesus we come not to be served but to service others.
