Job Description
St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church is located in award-winning Carmel, Indiana, which has nearly tripled in size over the past 20 years. St. Christopher’s has grown from approximately 40 families in 1956, when it was founded, to 254 families currently. We would like to grow and function as a program-sized church and tap into the vibrant city that Carmel has become. We are looking for a rector to help us become a pillar of our dynamic community representing the Christian faith and espousing the values of Christ through action.

We believe that we are called to care for and connect enthusiastically with all people as Christ does with us. We seek to live this call through the ministries of worship, evangelism, education, service and fellowship. With an external focus on service in our community, outreach has become a hallmark of our church. We continually strive to support, equip, and strengthen each other on our spiritual journeys as we create a loving and comforting congregation which reflects God’s love in our lives and in the world.

We are a friendly, kind, welcoming, generous, compassionate, caring, fun-loving congregation that has an informal spirit and a sense of humor. We are non-judgmental, embrace diversity and are open to new ideas and changes. We have a strong sense of community with a “can-do” attitude.

We seek a rector who is:

● Assists our transition to a program-sized church and helps us grow by attracting people in the surrounding communities to St. Christopher’s
● Guides us to use the gifts we have and develops additional lay leaders within our congregation
● Teaches us practices for a Christ-centered life

● Welcomes all people to our church and is a living example of God’s loving kindness
● Supports our community through this change to a program-sized church and with pastoral care in our times of trouble

● Organizes a plan to help us actualize our vision for our future

● Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills in interacting with members of the congregation, staff, and surrounding communities
● Provides inspirational messages of God’s love with a sense of humor and down-to-earth attitude

● Delegates, develops and mentors strong lay leaders and achieves results through others
● Promotes and builds relationships among members and with the surrounding communities

● Takes feedback and works with others to develop harmony even amidst conflict
● Guides lay leaders and members of the church consistently and actively to be strong representatives of God’s love in our community

Come live our dream with us!
