|Bexley Seabury is hiring a full-time Professor of Preaching to start July 1, 2024. Rank is open (lecturer, assistant, associate or full professor) based on experience. We are seeking an experienced and dynamic preacher and teacher of preaching. Previous ministry experience is expected, and teaching experience is highly desirable.
The candidate should have an MDiv and may be ordained in the Episcopal Church or a church in communion with it (either part of the global Anglican Communion, or the ELCA or other non-Anglican church). We prefer the candidate have a terminal degree (DMin, ThD, PhD) in hand; we expect the candidate to demonstrate an ability to teach effectively in online and hybrid learning environments, to share our seminary’s commitment to undoing racism and white supremacy, to be eager to preach the gospel, and to help form others to do the same, particularly in the context of the liturgy.
Candidates should be able to work with and teach a wide variety of students, helping them to identify the issues impacting preaching and the gospel message in multiple contexts. This includes the importance of God’s grace, as well as how the gospel is heard in non-dominant groups, such as African and African American, Latin American, Native American, Asian and Asian American, womanist/feminist/mujerista and/or queer/LGBTQ populations. These also include the contextual challenges of consumerism, virtual church, and connecting across differences.
