Priest in Charge
Name of church or organization
Christ Episcopal Church
Montpelier, VT
Job Description
Christ Church is a caring, welcoming, warm, inclusive, and friendly faith community, supportive of one another. Our community outreach efforts, such as our feeding ministries and social justice ministries, are vibrant. The music ministry is a significant dimension of our liturgy, worship, spirituality, and outreach. The location of the church in downtown Montpelier, as a base of operations for serving our community and the worship space itself is beautiful. Strong core lay leadership is in place. There is an openness at Christ Church that allows for acceptance, diversity, flexibility, and open-minded theology. The children and family ministry is active and growing.

We are seeking a responsible church leader to oversee and help carry out the mission of Christ Church as defined by the Vestry and the Episcopal Diocese of Vermont. As such, the priest is the supervisor of all paid staff and is responsible for overseeing the various ministries operated under the official auspices of the church, whether directed by professional or lay leadership.

At Christ Church, we accentuate collaborative and mutual ministry, inviting innovation and, after thoughtful discussion, empowering and supporting individual efforts to develop their ideas. Our experience of growing and expanding into the “Priest in Partnership” model has made us leaner, quicker, and more open to new ways of doing things.

We seek a leadership style which is mission-driven, enthusiastic, and results-focused, and at the same time is respectful of all involved, is collaborative in decision-making, and seeks to encourage initiative. Our “Priest in Partnership” model offers flexibility and accountability, essential in these times of uncertainty, and enhances further opportunities for mutual ministry.
