Applications are invited for the post of
Chaplain (Parish Priest) of Christ Church, Jebel Ali, Dubai
An exciting opportunity has opened up for an experienced priest to be the Chaplain of Christ Church, Jebel Ali (CCJA), in Dubai, one of the United Arab Emirates.

The substantial building was consecrated in 2002. CCJA is an English-language expatriate Anglican congregation of multiple nationalities, cultures and social backgrounds. Additionally there is a small congregation worshipping at St Catherine’s in Silicon Oasis, Dubai.

Christ Church is a vibrant and welcoming community with a churchmanship best described as central, being broad and inclusive, and ready to welcome an energetic, imaginative and theologically literate priest to minister to a diversity of Christian traditions.

While the people of Christ Church are looking for overall spiritual direction and leadership to equip them to live faithfully as Christians, an important function of the parish priest will be to focus on the everyday pastoral care of the transient and diverse expatriate community, with all its particular opportunities and problems.

There is a significant wedding ministry and candidates should be open to marrying divorcees and non-churchgoing couples after due discernment. There is a need to relate effectively to government departments, as well as clubs, societies and other expatriate organisations, so as to be part of the distinctively Christian contribution to Dubai and UAE society at large.

In recent years the Chaplain’s responsibilities have included mentoring a number of ordinands and candidates for Reader ministry. A curate is currently in post.

The church-owned building complex is set in a locality which also includes the compounds of other Christian trarditions as well as a Sikh Gurdwara. Under the supervision of the Chaplain, CCJA hosts on its premises several ‘guest’ Protestant congregations representing a variety of national, denominational and language groupings. Thoughtful engagement in ecumenical and interfaith relationships is vital.

The Chaplain will lead a small collaborative team looking after administration of the church office and building complex. Some previous business or management experience is desirable.

The successful candidate will be offered: tax-free stipend, end-of-service gratuity, medical insurance, housing, car, annual leave, economy flight tickets to home country every year, as well as schooling for up to two children up to the age of 18.
