|Parish of the Good Shepherd|
|Parish of the Good Shepherd is a vibrant parish in Waban village of Newton, MA. The activities of the parish are centered around four pillars of faith: liturgical worship (primarily Rite I), music, outreach, and Christian education. The music program is one steeped in an Anglican-Catholic/ High Church heritage and open to the breadth of music offered to the glory of God in the Episcopal tradition (for example Lift Every Voice and Sing, the African-American hymnal of the Episcopal church).
We seek a Director of Music who will serve as organist and choirmaster, having responsibility for all aspects of music at Good Shepherd. The Director of Music works collaboratively with the Rector and parish staff to select music, prepare, rehearse and direct the choir and play the organ at the principal services of Good Shepherd. The Director of Music reports directly to the Rector.
Congregation Size: Average Sunday attendance – 105
Sunday Choir: Average of eight (8) paid singers and eight (8) volunteers
Please note: Under the circumstances of the current pandemic, many aspects of a typical search will necessarily be different. This document seeks to provide information about our music ministry under normal circumstances, while taking into consideration some of the changes we have all made in recent months. Though little can be called normal in our world today, it is our hope that we can conduct a search using the best guidelines and tools for health and safety. The ideal candidate would begin at Good Shepherd in September, offering time to establish protocols for the “new normal” in church music.
