Job Description
Trinity Cathedral in Reno, Nevada is seeking a full-time Organist and Choir Master. As a growing cathedral, Trinity desires to recruit an organist and choir master to lead and advance the cathedral’s music program. Trinity Cathedral is an heir to the rich tradition of Episcopal sacred music and considers the role of organist and choir master essential to its worship and identity.

The ideal candidate for the position will demonstrate a high level of technical skill on both the organ and piano, be skilled in choral conducting, and be sensitive to the Anglican heritage in theology and worship customs.

The Organist and Choir Master is responsible for the music at two Sunday services (9:00 a.m. Family Service and the 11:00 a.m. Choral Eucharist Mass) and for music and choir participation at special services, including Advent, Easter, and others. The cathedral’s music outreach program includes “Pipes on the River” concerts (twice monthly) and Reno’s ARTOWN, regarded as one of the most comprehensive arts festivals in the country by the National Endowment for the Arts.

The cathedral organ is an Op. 3378 Casavant Frères Pipe Organ (three manual), with 37 ranks (2,177 pipes), augmented by Casavant Frères with eight ranks of Walker electronics. The organ has multiple memory levels and a full complement of couplers. (For specifications please visit www.trinityreno.org under Music tab). Following renovation of the cathedral expected to begin in 2020, a Cook Tracker (seven rank) pipe organ will be installed in the cathedral’s Bishop Lewis Chapel. Selection of a grand piano will be made upon completion of the cathedral renovation.

Situated on the Truckee River in downtown Reno near the University of Nevada-Reno, and close to the Sierra Nevada, the cathedral’s location offers the successful candidate access to many excellent activities. Reno offers cultural diversity through special events, performing arts, and galleries such as the Reno Philharmonic Orchestra, The Nevada Museum of Art, and the Pioneer Center for the Performing Arts.

Reno is a growing university city. The University has indicated willingness to consider engagement by the successful candidate in a capacity of Instructor in the Music Department of the School of Arts.
