Summary of Position

We are seeking a part-time Organist/Choir Director for our small, vibrant church who will be responsible for accompanying our liturgies on organ and/or piano. They will also lead, teach, and direct the choir(s) and congregation for all liturgies, funerals, (if needed) and special services including select Holy Week services, Christmas Eve and Easter Sunday. This is a salaried position with 10-12 average weekly hours. We are seeking someone who can help us grow our music ministry in our congregation and in outreach to the wider community.

Skills & Qualifications

– A high degree of proficiency in the organ and piano and working knowledge of other instruments. Our organ is an Allen Digital L-227e with a MIDI ensemble kit.
– Experience in leading, teaching and motivating volunteer choir(s) with members with a variety of skills, personalities, and age ranges
– Ability to perform and lead various styles of music
– Experience accompanying and planning for liturgical worship in the Episcopalian/Anglican tradition
– Experience with handbell choirs preferred
– Established connections to local or regional musicians for availability for special services and possible future concerts
– A degree (BA or higher) in music or equivalent experience or training is required.

Expectations:

– Collaborate creatively with the Priest-in-Charge/Rector in choosing music for worship services from The Episcopal Church’s approved music sources: 1982 Hymnal, LEVAS II, and Wonder, Love and Praise in addition to other musical choices suitable for Episcopal/Anglican style worship.
– The Organist/Choir Director reports to and meets with the Priest-in-Charge/Rector in regularly scheduled meetings and attends any music or worship committee meetings and other meetings as requested
– Works with church musicians and musicians engaged for special services or events in an encouraging and inspiring leadership style
– Maintains a positive, flexible, welcoming, and professional attitude grounded in inclusive Christian ministry with choir, musicians, staff, parishioners and visitors
– Excellent verbal and digital communication skills; organizes time well
– Successful completion of required background checks/trainings, including: Criminal Record Check and Safeguarding God’s Children or equivalent training (completed within past 3 years or will complete within 60 days of hire via online training: )

Compensation: Salary is negotiable and will be based on skills and experience
