|Organist and Choirmaster
|Name of church or organization
|Saint Mark’s Church
|The Organist & Choirmaster should be accomplished and comfortable at the console and in the choir room. He or she will plan and lead music in an active, growing, eucharistically centered parish. The desire and ability to function as part of a team is important. A high performance standard and a broad range of repertoire are part of the shared expectation of the parish. At least two services each Sunday are sung. There are three different choirs: the Parish Choir (comprising 9 paid singers as well as volunteers); the Boys & Girls Choir (ages 7-18), and St. Mark’s Singers (all volunteers). Congregational hymn singing is highly valued. Strong skills playing hymns, accompanying the liturgy, and improvising are all considered important. At least two services each week are sung, and the High Mass includes a composed setting of the Ordinary each week.
It is our goal to see the Boys & Girls program strengthened and more fully integrated into the music program. We value the work and approach of the Royal School of Church Music in America. Must be experienced in and enjoy training, leading, and teaching young choristers in this tradition.
The Organ is a 1936-37, Aeolian-Skinner (Opus 948), with other additions, comprises 116 ranks, and a 4-manual console. The instrument was restored in 2017-18. A new console was installed in 2023. For more information, please go to https://www.saintmarksphiladelphia.org/organ
