  • In worship space we use September through May: M. P. Möller Opus 10291, 1966; 15 ranks, 3 divisions [great, swell, and an auxiliary floating division], 2 manuals, 3 ranks, rebuilt in 2011 with additional pipes and a solid-state control system
    o In the worship space we use June through August: Wurlitzer c. 1906, 2 manuals, 4 ranks.

General Responsibilities:

• Familiarity with or willingness to learn liturgy and musical tradition in the Episcopal Church.
• Choose hymns, songs, and music with the Rector for each service.
• Attend monthly Worship Committee meetings.
• Plan special services such as Evensong, Advent Lessons and Carols, Blue Christmas, Christmas
• Concert, Easter, and other Holy Week Services with Worship Committee support.
• Coordinate solo and small group vocal and instrumental performances.
• Purchase music for use by choir, bell choir and ensembles and maintain music library with adherence to copyright.
• Arrange tuning, maintenance, and calibration for instruments.
• Exercise authority over who is invited to play organ, piano, and harpsichord as well as right of refusal for all funerals and weddings (these include honoraria from families).
• Educate congregation about liturgical music and music history.

Choir and Bell Choir Director:

• Select music in consultation with the rector.
• Rehearse choir and bell choir weekly mid-September through mid-May.
• Direct choir on Sunday mornings for one service September through May. Occasionally, two services may be requested.
• Prepare six Bell Choir performances per year, focus: Advent, Christmas, Easter and two annual Evensongs.
• Lead choral music as requested for weddings/funerals and occasional special performances for the local community, as negotiated.
• Recruit and orient new choir and bell choir members.

Accompanist (Organ and/or Piano):

• Accompany weekly choir practice.
• Accompany Sunday morning choral/bell anthems, soloists, and ensembles.
• Play two services each Sunday year-round.
• Provide music for Advent and Lent midweek services
• Oversee the recording of hymns and service music on organ for absences and arrange for a volunteer to play recordings.
• Choose appropriate instrument: organ, piano, or harpsichord. Venue may include other instrumentalists in ensemble performances.

A candidate’s interests and skills may lean more toward conducting or may lean more toward organ/accompanying. The music director will have authority and responsibility to work with volunteers and contract musicians to cover the preceding job description within the confines of the operating budget. Music Director:

• Sixteen hours per week September – May.
• Five hours per week June – August primarily as organist/accompanist.
• Salary range $15,000 – $18,000, commensurate with experience.
• Four Sundays off a year to be negotiated with the Rector.
• Sick leave to be negotiated.
• Retirement in the form of a 403(b) plan.
