The church building itself is a national landmark with a sandstone block façade and
imposing clock tower, centrally situated in downtown Jamestown, and is visible from several parts of the hilly city. Jamestown sits at the southern base of Chautauqua Lake near the historic Chautauqua Institution and, in addition to the activities available on the water, it boasts a thriving downtown arts scene, a Community College, Business College, and a Classical Concert Series, some of which is performed at St. Luke’s. We have an active congregation of four hundred members that values good music, a magnificent Aeolian-Skinner organ, a full peal of bells, an enthusiastic adult choir of sixteen, a youth choir of and an acoustic band. In short, we offer a great musical tradition with a lot of potential for growth.

Brief Position Description:
St. Luke’s has been blessed over the years with musicians who have set a very high musical standard. In our next Minister of Music, we are seeking someone of equal talent, who will be able to lead the congregation musically in a joyful expression of our Anglican tradition as well as play and oversee the upkeep of our beautiful Aeolian-Skinner organ. We are seeking someone who is a team player, can adapt to different people and personalities, has a sense of humor, and is not afraid to be creative. The Minister of Music works closely with the clergy in worship planning, and is responsible for choosing all choir and instrumental music as well as recommending hymns for Sunday worship. The Minister of Music directs both a youth choir and adult choir and oversees our acoustic band. We also encourage parishioners, especially young people, to share their musical gifts by playing their instruments in church when appropriate with the permission and under the supervision of the Minister of Music. All our ensembles contain a diverse and enthusiastic group of volunteers and we need someone who can teach, nurture, inspire and challenge them to achieve their maximum potential. This candidate should have at least a bachelor’s degree in music and a minimum of five years of experience.

And Rehearsals: 2-3

Hours per Week: 20

Annual Salary (negotiable, based on experience and qualifications), 1 Week of Paid Continuing Ed, 4 Weeks of Paid Vacation, 50% of Healthcare Premium (based on the Diocesan Healthcare Minimum Plan), and Pension Plan Contributions (after one year of service).
