Job Description
St. Thomas’s Church, Huron Street is an active and welcoming Anglo-Catholic parish in downtown Toronto, located close to the University of Toronto campus. Rooted in Scripture, Reason, and Tradition, we worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness and witness to Christ through pastoral care, music, education, discipleship and worship.

We are a parish of 179 households with a full-time rector and associate priest, administrative assistant, music director, assistant organist (part-time) and sexton (part-time). Several honorary assistant priests and retired clergy provide faithful service to our parish.

We offer four services every Sunday (Said Eucharist, Sung Eucharist using the Book of Alternative Services, High Mass following the Book of Common Prayer, and Choral Evensong and Devotions). During the week, services continue in the form of daily offices, officiated at by a roster of lay volunteers, and a daily Said Eucharist.

Our many ministries include a weekly meal program for our neighbours suffering from food insecurity, the Mandarin Ministry, a ward of the Society of Mary, Christian Meditation, refugee settlement, education, and music and the arts.

Our facilities include a beautiful heritage church designed in the Arts and Crafts style, a parish hall, and an on-site rectory.

Our parish’s priorities for the next five years are to:

· Reach out to serve and engage our community
· Build upon our Anglo-Catholic heritage of theology, liturgy, and music
· Nurture the development of lay leadership within our parish
· Renew our facilities through completion of the Our Heritage Is Our Future vision and campaign

We are seeking a Rector who:

· Is a person of prayer with a personal relationship to the Sacraments and a discipline of prayer
· Is an inspiring and skilled leader who is able to see new ways forward and bring plans already in place to fruition, work collaboratively and build an effective team among clergy, staff and lay leaders, support good governance, and delegate effectively to others
· Has respect for our Anglo-Catholic tradition and liturgy
· Has a deep appreciation for liturgical music
· Cares deeply for people, demonstrates empathy, and is easy to approach and talk to as a pastor
· Is a priest in the Anglican Communion and qualified to work in Canada

As we look toward the future, we welcome the interest of anyone who feels called to consider making St. Thomas’s a home for their ministry. With the evolving COVID-19 situation, we will make best use of virtual interviews as necessary in the selection process..
