St. Augustine’s in-the-Woods is a welcoming, well-educated, progressively-minded parish with a long history of service to the people of South and Central Whidbey Island. We highly value our church community for worship, fellowship and spiritual growth opportunities. Our strong dedication to the environment is matched by a passion for social justice. Our beautiful building was expanded and updated in 2011, and the debt retired in 2015. We hope to grow beyond our current demographics as a congregation of retirees to include families and younger people.
We are calling a Rector who is deeply grounded spiritually and biblically, and who preaches and teaches in clear, authentic, and compelling ways. Our Rector will be a fellow companion on our journey of faith – someone who is pastoral, inclusive, and engaging to lead from within the congregation. Our priest will have vision, skill, creativity, and energy to lead us forward into a vibrant and sustainable future, while retaining respect for our past and place.
A quieter, unhurried, yet culturally vibrant world greets the person who steps ashore on Whidbey Island. The largest island on the Pacific Coast of the contiguous United States, our surpassingly beautiful landscape is comprised of many miles of shoreline, evergreen forests, small farms, and communities of both permanent and ‘weekend’ homes. Accessed by a short ferry ride, the multiple satellite cities of Seattle are just across the water. When speaking of what St. Augustine’s means to them, our loving congregants use words such as “family,” “community,” “belonging,” “home,” and “beauty”. We are a close, committed, hopeful and imaginative congregation eager to welcome our new Rector and to grow together into a richly blessed future. |
