Job Description
The Executive Director of Education for Ministry (EfM) is a senior leader and administrator at the School of Theology and oversees all aspects of the Education for Ministry program. These include strategic planning and development, promotion, and management of this popular four-year distance-learning program in lay theological education and ministry formation. The Executive Director will develop a sustainable financial model for the program and oversee the development and implementation of course curriculum, including new course offerings and formats. The Executive Director additionally manages an operational and administrative staff located at the School of Theology in Sewanee, TN, oversees the training of EfM program mentors, develops and maintains connections with the wider Episcopal Church, and assists the dean of the School of Theology in representing EfM to the University administration, boards, and other constituents.

Candidates should hold a Master’s degree or a Ph.D. in an appropriate field. Candidates should additionally have experience with the EfM program, and several years in church-related adult education and program development, including budgetary oversight in a senior administrative role.

About EfM:

EfM students meet in locations across the United States in groups of 6-12 students led by an accredited mentor. The EfM community in the United States includes 47,496 graduates, 4,000 students in about 524 groups, 830 mentors, 111 diocesan coordinators, and 39 trainers. Approximately 175 mentor training events are held each year at diocesan sites and in Sewanee. EfM has affiliate programs in Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, and New Zealand.
