Job Description
The Executive Assistant to the Bishop provides direct administrative and personal support to the Bishop Diocesan, as well as a variety of responsibilities supporting the Office of the Bishop in the Diocese of Southwest Florida.

As Personal Assistant to Bishop Dabney Smith:
• Answer telephone and respond to all email communication with the Bishop
• Manage the Bishop’s schedule, responding to schedule requests
• Manage the Bishop’s correspondence
• Arrange travel and processing reimbursements
• Assist Bishop with his participation on all committees/commissions
• Support the Disciplinary Board and Standing Committee on confidential matters
• Maintain confidential filing system for bishop and clergy records
• Develop and coordinate parish visitation schedule; work with parish clergy to prepare for the Bishop’s Sunday visitations and prepare visitation materials
• Outside the Diocese: Coordinate communications related to the Bishop’s responsibilities with elected positions of the Episcopal Church: House of Bishops, Executive Council, Sewanee Board of Regents, Bishop Gray Retirement Foundation

As Member of the Office of the Bishop Team:
• Serve as Recorder of Ordinations for the diocese
• Serve as liaison to Standing Committee, Disciplinary Board and other committees as assigned
• Serve as administrative support to the Chaplains to the Retired
• Serve as administrative support to Deputation to General Convention
• Perform assigned responsibilities for annual Diocesan Convention every October in Punta Gorda, FL

• Strong organizational skills that reflect ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks seamlessly with excellent attention to detail
• Extreme flexibility to ensure the Office of the Bishop runs smoothly
• Very strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships with staff, clergy and lay leaders, external partners and donors
• Expert level written and verbal communication skills and the ability to put the Bishop’s voice into communications
• Demonstrated proactive approaches to problem-solving with strong decision-making capability
• Emotional and spiritual maturity
• Highly resourceful team-player with the ability also to be extremely effective independently
• Proven ability to handle confidential information with discretion, be adaptable to various competing demands, prioritize and demonstrate the highest level of service and response
• Bachelor’s degree required
• Strong work tenure: five to 10 years of experience supporting executives, preferably in a non-profit organization
• Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, and Power Point), Adobe Acrobat, and Social Media platforms


Total compensation package includes a competitive salary ($45,000 – $50,000), defined contribution pension (10%), and employer-paid single-coverage medical and dental insurance for a total compensation package between $60,000 and $65,000.
