|St. John’s Episcopal Church|
|West Hartford, CT|
|St. John’s Episcopal Church’s vision is to be a welcoming, healthy and growing church family in which all people come together, belonging and connecting to God and each other as we explore the many opportunities for Christian education and spiritual formation. Working in cooperation with the Rector and the Vestry, the Director of Religious Education (DRE) plans, leads, and directs all programs for children, from infancy through 12th grade. Programs include Sunday morning Christian education and nursery care; a program during worship in which elementary school children engage with the lectionary scriptures before returning to their families for Holy Eucharist; regular youth nights and other special events, such as an annual Christmas pageant and neighborhood block party; and biannual youth pilgrimages or mission trips. The DRE is responsible for recruiting, training and supporting parish volunteers who teach and help lead programs for children and youth. The job is 28 hours/week, with the potential for full-time hours as the program grows and involves more families.
Applicants must have a bachelor’s degree in education or a related field, a teaching certificate, and/or teaching experience. They do not need to be Episcopalian, but must be a person of Christian faith who will respect and support Episcopal liturgy and traditions. Required skills and qualities include excellent oral and written communication; collaborative problem-solving and leadership; a warm and joyful spirit when engaging with children, teens and their families; and a sense of humor. St. John’s is a supportive, flexible and family-friendly workplace.
