|Director of Music Ministries|
|Name of church or organization|
|Episcopal Church of St. John the Baptist|
|The Episcopal Church of St. John the Baptist in Aptos, CA, seeks a half-time (19-24 hrs/week) Director of Music Ministries. St. John’s is a singing congregation, with many talented musicians in our midst. Special care was taken to create acoustics in our sanctuary (built in 2009) that enhance the congregation’s experience of singing.
The congregation is eclectic in musical tastes. We regularly sing from The Hymnal 1982; Lift Every Voice and Sing; Wonder, Love & Praise; Voices Found; Gather, and occasionally from other genres (i.e., blues, guitar/folk).
We seek a Director of Music Ministries who considers their work a calling and ministry, and will oversee all music-related matters in the parish. Working collaboratively with the Rector and lay leadership, the Director will encourage parishioners to use their musical gifts in worship, build the choir (currently between 5-10 voices), rehearse weekly, accompany Sunday services, provide anthems, and coordinate music for occasional special services.
We have two fine instruments in house: a 23 rank Hook/Rosales tracker pipe organ and a brand-new Kawai GX-7 piano. We recently began hosting the Aptos Keyboard Series, which brings world class pianists to perform in the intimacy of our sanctuary. There would be opportunities for the employee to work with that series if so desired.
Compensation will be in accordance with the Association of Anglican Musicians 2018 salary guide; the vestry has approved a compensation range of $30,000 – $50,000 (inclusive of salary, benefits and pension), depending on experience and skill.
