Job Description
A full-time salaried position to serve in a large Episcopal Church in suburban Boston, Massachusetts. The ideal candidate will be a passionate Christian formation professional, preferably with teaching experience in Catechesis of the Good Shepherd; the person must be highly organized and able to engage children, teens, parents, and volunteers with creativity and enthusiasm.

The Parish of the Epiphany has a rich history of forming children, youth, and families through worship, learning, mission, and community building. Staff, volunteer leaders, and a committed core of families have demonstrated excitement to try new programs, curricula, and schedules. Our long-standing commitment to Mission & Outreach (globally and locally) equips us to integrate these existing strong programs with how we form and educate children, youth, and families. The ideal candidate will bring a background in managing change.

We are currently a parish in transition; our 10th rector was elected bishop to the Diocese of Maine in February 2019. We are a stable, healthy, and thriving church who look forward to discerning what the future holds for us. We anticipate calling a new rector by the end of our 2019-2020 program year.

The director of faith formation will report initially to the wardens, and will work collaboratively with the interim rector, director of music, and all other clergy and lay staff, as well as a committed group of lay leaders. Demonstrated skills in program development, implementation and revitalization, recruitment and support of volunteers, and communication are essential.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
● Direct the church school for 1st through 5th grade and children’s chapel for preschool and kindergarten.
● Direct middle and high school youth groups
● Plan and create special intergenerational events and worship opportunities including the Christmas Pageant
● Develop and implement programs and events for parents and families
● Communicate with all constituents through multiple media
● Recruit, coordinate training, and support volunteer teachers and paid nursery staff
● Work alongside the lay-led committee, the Family Ministry Committee
● Manage the budgets for children, youth, and family ministries
● Implement registration, CORI and safe church policies, attendance, ordering of supplies
● Assess the most critical needs for a part-time youth minister using input from key stakeholders; design, recruit, and supervise this role.
● Work collaboratively with other staff to achieve goals across all of the parish’s programs.

Essential Qualifications
● Passion for children, teens, and families; deep regard for spiritual and religious life
● Ability to advocate for and integrate children, youth and families as full participants in our community
● Strong computer skills, experience using social media and iContact would be a plus
● Ability to take initiative, to work both independently and collaboratively
● Experience developing and encouraging individuals and teams
● Experience with mission & outreach, and church music considered a plus.
● Excitement for the vision and mission of the Parish of the Epiphany

Work Schedule
This is a full-time salaried position in which Sundays are a regular work day. The Parish of the Epiphany offers an attractive compensation package with competitive salary based on education and experience, a generous benefit program, paid vacation, and a continuing education allowance.
