Summary of Position:
The Director of Communications will create, organize, plan, and implement effective communications messages and strategies to church and community audiences. This staff person shall serve as a resource for advice and guidance in all aspects of communication and publicity for St. Paul’s Church.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Oversees the design and production of all print communications, including but not limited to weekly insert, Chimes magazine, annual reports, devotionals, and postcards, and all digital communications, including but not limited to regular and special email blasts, slideshows, and ministry or event specific projects.
  • Manages parish website, ensuring its maintenance, design and content are up-to-date
  • Coordinates, reviews and maintains content for social media channels
  • Oversees the maintenance of graphic resources, including photo library and logos. Coordinates photography of parish events with volunteers. Maintains visual identity standards across all print, web, and social media communications.
  • Solicits and edits content that helps our church community best tell its story, keeping key audiences in mind
  • Ensures brand standards are met across all print and digital communications, within the parish and the broader community
  • Communicate effectively with various groups about the mission, vision, and communication strategy of St. Paul’s
  • Coordinates special projects and duties as directed
  • Other duties as assigned by the Rector


  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, graphic design, English and/or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of InDesign, Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and other relevant digital publishing or project management applications
  • Familiarity with or willingness to learn skills necessary to operate production level printing machine
  • Creative eye and proven design skills
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment and to meet recurring deadlines
  • Familiarity and comfort with posting on evolving social media tools
  • Experience with the parish life of a church and knowledge of the social dynamics unique to ministry work
  • Familiarity with or willingness to learn the beliefs, practices, and vocabulary of The Episcopal Church
  • Familiarity with A/V equipment a plus

Work Environment:

  • Requires reasonable office hours, including attendance at some Sunday worship and special events
  • Able to work with other office staff, clergy and members of the church
  • Able to work independently as well as, on occasion, remotely
